Ecstatic joy and playfulness are in abundance in the Djanaieff universe where pop culture and fine art collide in an explosion of colours and shapes. The chaotic mix of appropriated images is visually intense, highly detailed and never dull.
The inspiration comes from childhood heroes, movie posters, youth culture and street art. The result? Handmade, elaborate works in plastic, wood, paper and textile that explore and imitate the glossy appearance of mass consumption in a sort of inverted ready-mades. The artist himself calls his works contemporary cave paintings, born out of a need to illustrate the zeitgeist of our time.
